Keeping the lawyer in the loop

AI changes how legal work is done, not who is responsible for it. A short case for designing tools around professional judgement.

Professional responsibility does not transfer to software. The lawyer who signs the filing, sends the advice or approves the contract remains accountable for it, however it was produced.

That should shape how legal AI is designed. Tools should make their reasoning visible, show their sources, and leave clear decision points for the person who carries the responsibility.

Design for review, not for trust

A tool that asks to be trusted is asking the wrong thing. A tool that makes itself easy to check earns trust the way a good junior does: one verified piece of work at a time.

The final call belongs to the professional who signs their name to it.
